StuckinaBook’s Weekend Miscellany

Man, this hay fever is wiping me out. I’m so tired with it! And that’s even without taking the antihistamines that make me super drowsy (I’m taking the less drowsy ones). This is all small fry, but it’s my poor excuse for why I haven’t blogged much recently. There are some very enjoyable books I want to tell you about. Soon. But for now, it’s book, blog post, link time. Happy weekend, y’all.

1.) The blog post – Brad at Neglected Books has done a fascinating round up of lesser-known novels that take place in a day. He calls them circadian novels. By the nature of such a list, you might find they’re not very easy to track down – but I really enjoyed reading about them nonetheless.

Autocorrect: Amazon.co.uk: Keret, Etgar, Cohen, Jessica, Silverston, Sondra: 9781803510668: Books

2.) The book – I absolutely loved the bizarre, compelling stories in Suddenly, A Knock on the Door by Etgar Keret, but haven’t yet read any more of his fiction. But I’m still excited to learn that a new collection of his short stories has just come out – Autocorrect. Fingers crossed I’ll get my hands on it!

3.) The link – self-indulgently, it’s to my new podcast! My friend Lizzie and I now co-host an irreverent podcast about the soap opera Emmerdale called Dingle All The Way. The crossover audience with Stuck in a Book might be slim, but I thought I’d mention just in case… find it on Spotify or wherever you listen to podcasts.

Oh I’m sorry about your hay fever induced fatigue. I am very much in sympathy being in a household where we are all slowly recovering our energy after a summer cold that actually transpired was the latest very infectious COVID (originally the infection came from a district nurse!).

Anyway, that’s enough woe; your weekend miscellany has always brought joy to my Saturday morning and I have, of course, added to my wish list after reading Brad’s piece, and reserved Suddenly a Knock at the Door at the library (there’s my resolution to not order any more books until I finish the ones in the pile blown…again!!)

Hope the hay fever eases soon.

Sorry about the hayfever, Simon – I never used to suffer when I was younger but its crept up on me in recent years and can be really debilitating. The heat isn’t helping either…

All best luck with the allergic rhinitis! I’ve been a sufferer for decades. The only thing that has helped has been sublingual immunotherapy drops from a doctor that’s an allergist. Just a suggestion. And you can read about it. It’s not as interesting as your usual fare, but it may help with the side effects of the oral medication.

Hoping your hay fever will get away soon. I have had crazy coughing for 2 weeks apparently relate to allergies as well. It is exhausting.
It’s good we have the comfort of books!

I tried to get the ARC of Autocorrect, but was declined. Strange that they don’t want an English speaker living in Israel to read this book!

I’m sorry about your hayfever, I suffer too but mine’s beginning to soften now, hope yours does too. I love the title Dingle all the Way and your badge/logo, I hope you have fun with it.
