Novella Weekend: Book Five

That injudicious napping earlier means I can’t get to sleep now (pah) and so I’ve finished book five – Not to Disturb by Muriel Spark. Is it my tiredness or Spark herself that made this novella so strange? But unmistakably Sparkesque – which, in my book, is a good thing. Thank you Deanna for sending me this a couple of months ago – as with the other novellas this weekend, I’ll write about it in due course. And now I will go to bed…

I had this lined up for last year's November Novella Challenge, but it was much stranger than I expected and not the right book for the moment so I threw in the towel. I have faith in Muriel Sprak though, so I will go back to it one day.

I haven't read this one so I can't say if it was sleep or Saprk, I'll look forward to your full thoughts in due course.

Well done with the weekend by the way, I am just catching up on it all.

Jane – I still haven't got my head around it – the strangeness came from the bizarre plotting structure as much as anything. I need to find someone who has blogged about it…

Darlene – it all rather crumbled on the second day, as I will explain later! I got about a third of the way through another book… that's all. Oops.

Simon – the first day was fun! Maybe I'll just do novella days in the future.

I read this novel last year, along with a number of other books by Spark, and I have to say that Not to Disturb was not my favorite. I enjoy it, as I enjoy everything by her, but it just didn't grab me as some of her other books have.
