Chatsworth!

I’m off to Chatsworth for the day – I’ll report back later!

And Janey, if you’re still interested in Babbit, email me at simondavidthomas[at]yahoo.co.uk :)

Oh, whilst I’m giving brief notices – for those interested, I decided to change my Twitter handle from simonsiab (since people seemed confused over the ‘siab’ bit) to stuck_inabook – so I’m at Twitter.com/stuck_inabook.  One day I’ll understand Twitter…

What else have I been up to?  I watched an episode of As Time Goes By tonight which I hadn’t seen for ages, and chuckled away (the last episode in series 4, since you ask – a very enjoyable mockery of film sets.)

Have a lovely Tuesday, everyone!

Hi, just a quick question. If, for whatever reason, Janey is not interested in Babbitt anymore, can I possible buy it instead?
    Thanks

I hope you come back with lots of photos, Simon! I long to visit Chatsworth for myself but, given my slightly inconvenient location, for now I just enjoy hearing about other people's visits. And I love As Time Goes By and can rewatch it endlessly. It's difficult to think of another television couple as delightfully entertaining as Jean and Lionel.

ATGB always reminds me of Sunday afternoons at home, growing up – the theme music alone makes me so happy! And I could watch the programme endlessly.

Take a brolly – and don't expect to be asked to stay the night – no matter how deep in mud your hems are – or how healthy your complexion!!!

My complexion has never been noticeably healthy, perhaps that's why I wasn't given the spare room…

Chatsworth, eh? I've been working my way through Decca (book of Jessica Mitford's letters–and they are many) and have read through various uncomfortable visits there, since the Duchess of D was Decca's youngest sister. On-again, off-again speakers with each other.

What's at Chatworth for you today, Simon?

I started those letters years ago, I must dig them out… and try to find some sympathy for Decca.

I was there meeting up with some e-friends :)

Debo's autobiography 'Wait For Me'is one of my current Books in Progress – it includes chapters on how she and her husband opened Chatsworth to the public and established various initiatives to turn it into a paying concern. Why are we all so fascinated by the Mitfords?

Oh, Wait For Me is great fun, isn't it? With surprisingly deep emotional moments too.

Why are we all so fascinated? Good question. Don't know – I suppose there is such variety amongst the sisters; something for everyone!

I agree, OVW and add: no walking to the house in a soaked white shirt!
