Casting pearls before…

I’m afraid I’ve had swine flu. Or at least flu of some variety, but since it’s passing more quickly than normal flu, the consensus is that it’s of the swine persuasion. So posts might not be forthcoming for a bit – I feel a lot better than I did yesterday (I was only awake for a few scattered hours throughout the day) but my brain resists doing much thinking. And, annoyingly, I don’t seem able to read books… always the way when I get ill: hours in bed, and not able to use the time to lessen the tbr pile. Doh.

But this post is more to explain my absence (or at least the absence of any particularly well-thought-out posts for a bit) than for sympathy, so I shall leave you with a picture from my trip to the Lake District and Edinburgh… more of these soon, I think my brain’s up to that. This is from Grasmere, home of Wordsworth and my friend Phoebe.

Hope you get better soon! Though being ill has it's advantages…lots of time to read and watch favourite BBC adaptations.

Feel better soon, Simon. My son just had it (it may have something to do with the fact that he teaches in a NY City high school with 4,500 kids)and he recovered in 3 days . There is light at the end of the dismal flu tunnel. In the meantime, I will miss your blog.

Oh dear! I hope your brain will be up to reading soon; that is the only good thing about being sick.

Oooh I had that a while ago, on bank holiday weekend, no less. It wiped me out!
Have plenty of lemsip, eat lots of toast and soup and oranges and keep warm in bed. Rest up well and you will be over it in no time. I hope you feel better very soon!

Prayers for your quick recovery, Simon. Being sick can be almost nice when you are still well enough to read, but if not… :-/ One of my daughters has swine flu and is 8 hours away at her college, so I can't make chicken soup for her– too bad!

Best wishes for your recovery Simon. Didn't C S Lewis say that convalescence was a most enjoyable time to read? Hope you soon move into that stage.

Get well soon, Simon. Meantime, do you not have any audiobook versions of books in your TBR pile? You can download some fantastic audio books from Naxos (some unabridged) and from Silksoundbooks.co.uk. For FREE (assuming you have a laptop by your bedside, since I'm guessing you do not have one of those new internet radio things) you can list to http://www.audiobookradio.net, whose current schedule includes Kathryn Mansfield's "Psychology" at 8.28 and 2.28 (both am and pm).

We've all had swine flu, too. Hopefully, you've turned the corner now. (Did you read much when you were sick?

I'm so pleased to have stumbled upon your blog today. I see my friend Pamela Terry; isn't it funny what a small blogworld it can be?
