Lovely review. Try to catch yesterday’s Rafio 4 Food Prog for great discussion of food in children’s lit with special ref to Anne and the wine drinking… Which edition is yours? I love cover.

Loved your take on Anne, and your enthusiasm. I do hope you get to the rest of the series. I read these in my late 20’s-early 30’s in a season when I was reading all the classic children’s literature I had missed out on so that I could see what I wanted to hand my kids to read. Glad you enjoyed it!

Simon looks and sounds like vintage/collectable expert Mark Hill. What do you think?

So glad you enjoyed Anne – she’s always been one of my favourites. She’s so well intentioned, and always surprised (and plunged into the ‘depths of despair’) when things don’t go according to plan. I especially like the bit where she tries to get rid of her red hair by dyeing it, and it turns out green.

I only read this last year, glad you enjoyed it. I want to try the Emily series before I read more AoGG. Jenny from Reading the End recommended it and her recommendations haven’t failed me yet. (I need to read Greensleeves first though *puts it in work bag*.)
